sweet as sugar and everything nice

Been a while since I posted cos I was recovering from post CNY binge
and suffered a mild scare last week
when I had a sudden breakout and tiny bumps appeared out of nowhere
all over my face.
It was red, patchy and itchy and I google-d til I went mad
but couldn't find out what triggered it off.
So i stayed off nuts, CNY goodies, sugar,
washed my makeup brushes and drank loads of veg juices.
It finally went away this week and I still don't know what was the cause.
So this is what happens when you get older.

Meanwhile, I am sitting here with a face mask on,
multi-tasking while blogging.
(but still sleeping late. UGH)

some outfits of the past week:

I would usually opt for a flare maxi skirt
but when I saw this side slit maxi sample, I knew I wanted it.
Its hard to explain but when you have been working with clothes for a long time,
and you fall instantly for one,
you know you have to get it. Haha.

in between fretting about my skin and starting work,
I squeezed in a day out with my parents.
This is my version of lazy dressing.
Comfy top & shorts with fab shoes, bags and accessories.
Really glam-ed things up.

and then it was back to work Tuesday.
It doesn't show here but my paperbag shorts were navy
cos I was going for a blue tuesday look.
(okay, not working)

and my fav outfit of the week!!
ZARIA racer tank with my first pair of printed pants.
I realised I am a safe dresser cos I usually buy prints in black&white first
before branching out into scarier bolder ones.
Deliberately accessorized with coral heels + clutch
and mad happy when someone spotted it on Instagram.
You totally got my drift babe.

finally wore my SABBIE dress in cream for bday dinner with YC.
It was a quiet affair at The White Rabbit
with no photos cos lighting was really dim
and everything just looked...dark.
The food was decent, albeit a bit too salty
but the pork collar was heavenly.
Would go back there just for it, really.

and today's outfit in our upcoming boat neck midi!
its really gorgeous in real life, super easy to wear,
just throw it on and choose a belt to jazz it up.
Plus it has this low U-back detail that I am crazy about these days.
I can't really capture the colour here but its a cheery emerald green
so imagine how it would pop with a cobalt or yellow belt :)

and because I finally got to try some yummy stuff this week,
here are some foodie pics!

made pancakes for YC. I really wanted to do Hello Kitty ones
but I was afraid he might kill me.
Sidenote, I really need a smaller pan.
I was frying these in my 28cm frying pan. It was crazy.

My supplier gave us Tokyo Banana!
At the risk of sounding sad, it was my first time trying them.
I thought the "leopard spots" were too cute :)

finally tried the shiok maki from Koh Grill and Sushi
after seeing it countless times on my insta feed.
Maybe it was just me but I find that with so many good stuff in one bite,
i can't really differentiate the flavors and taste them.
But as agreed by all friends, its instagram-ability is very high. Haha.

and parma ham pizza which looked wonderful but..
pity I am not a fan of parma ham.
Or truffle. Or foie gras.
I have lousy taste buds. :(

Lastly, something funny to share:

Here are 27 signs that you are addicted to Instagram.

1. You choose your outfits in the morning based on how they will look after filtering.

2. If you didn’t upload it, you didn’t eat it.

3. If you didn’t snap a #mirrorshot #selfie, you didn’t wear it.

4. You’ve started to view the world exclusively in squares.

5. Accordingly, rectangular photos on social media now look positively amateur.

6. In bed, after you turn out the light, you give Instagram one last refresh, just to make sure you’re caught up.

7. You find yourself frequently reviewing your own Instagram stream critically to assess what other people might think of you, based on your most recent photos.

8. You’re extremely judgmental of the filter choices of others. (“Kelvin? With the frame?!”)

9. You say things like “Hold on – I need to Insta this really quick,” more than once a day.

10. You consider anything less than double-digit likes a failed photo, and delete it.

11. You obsess over your statistics on a daily basis, especially lost followers and your “most liked” photos.

12. You’re an app purist – and frown upon using photos uploaded from the web instead of taken with your iPhone.

13. The hashtag(s) for your image is of utmost importance #nofilter #OOTD #throwbackthursday #latergram

14. You have the use of “tilt focus” down to a science.

15. You’ve read all of IFB’s Instagram posts.

16. 90 percent of the reason you even have a smart phone is so you can use Instagram.

17. You pre-edit your Instagram photos with other apps to maximize their impact.

18. You’re envious of dog and cat owners, purely because of the photo ops.

19. You can’t understand why in the world anyone would have a Blackberry.

20. Choosing the right filter is the most agonizing six minutes of your day.

21. You can’t remember the last evening you didn’t take a photo of the sunset.

22. More than a few times, you’ve chosen your shoes, your manicure, your coffee shop or your route to work based on it’s “Instagramability.”

23. You consider your ratio of followers to follows to be one of your greatest accomplishments in social media.

24. A loss of 3G (or 4G if you’re fancy) connectivity without a wifi network nearby is reason enough to leave a party, boutique, restaurant, wedding, concert, or baby shower.

25. You have serious opinions about people’s wedding hashtags, and might already know what yours will be.

26. Instagram stalking is your new Facebook creeping, and you’re obsessive with your “clear search history” maintenance.

27. You’ve turned down a potential romantic partner because of their sub-standard Instagram photos.

It's worrying how many I can identify with.

get set... go!

how was your CNY?
mine was nothing short of tons of feasting, gatherings with close friends and family, and loads of gambling :x

got myself into the festive mood a few days before CNY itself by donning prints and brights!

and got my nails done in a super girly fashion; totally not me and im itching to remove it soon, haha.

day one's outfit,

day two's details,

and finally day four's.

spent the third day out and about with the boy - brunch at one of our favourite haunts, a visit to the cloud forest, then river angpow thereafter :)

finally, some western food after days of chinese cuisine!

didn't manage to take much pictures at the garden because it was sooo crowded and the water mist was everywhere and i was too busy avoiding puddles :(

fourth day was spent nannying my 5-year-old niece while the rest of the cousins were busy with mahjong (pffffft) and she FINALLY warmed up to me and let me play masak-masak with her!

a kitchen set with stoves that can light up and a washing area; carrots and eggs stuck together by velcro so you can 'cut' them up with your knife on a plastic chopping board and a hello kitty toaster!! don't get me started on her sushi set and rice cooker.
oh gosh i so want her toys for myself!!! my inner child went abit mad, i kid you not.

her MLP collection. aaaaaahhhhhhh!!

aside, managed to squeeze some time for a farewell dinner with sue, who has since moved to shanghai! :(
went to mozza pizzeria at the girl's request and it was as fab as i remember it to be.

you're gonna have a blast there best emo friend! can't wait to visit you in SH soooon :)))

randomly, made sandwiches for the boy in exchange for a new ipod touch for Vday, yay!

and with that, concludes my week-long holiday. its gonna be back to the daily grind tomorrow but i'm not complaining - so looking forward to sketching out the year's plans for missypixie, setting new goals and targets, and bringing her to new heights this year.

let's go!

and it's a happy happy lunar new year!

Lunar New Year is probably my favourite holiday of the year,
more so when I was young and had tons of red packets,
free flow of snacks and sugary drinks and yay! gambling!
Now I am giving away red packets awkwardly and trying to be grown-up
entertaining guests at the new house.
Weird. But still, fav holiday :)

Nothing much has happened these 2 weeks cos CNY came
and in between spring cleaning, buying CNY goodies,
visiting and running errands,
I haven't had much time to go out to play :(
so here is a mish-mash of outfit shots and food pics
I managed to snap along the way.

Firstly, was super ambitious this year
and decided to bake some of the CNY goodies.

cornflake cookies which worked,
but was such a bitch to bake.

tried baking almond cookies on the advice of Sharms,
it was delicious and waaaay nicer than I thought!

Also, two of my most glorious foodie pics the past weeks:

crab beehoon which had roe swimming in the soup.
I thought I died and went to heaven. DAMN GOOD.

and this whole bowl of chewy bits and bobs Mella brought us to eat.
ahhhhhhhh, now I am craving for it.

and in preparation for CNY (post cleaning of cos)

specially went down to FEP just to do my nails.

bought new shoes! love the gold heels details :)

took a whole slew of outfit shots:

my "die-die-wanna-wear-those-boots" outfit.
I really love wearing boots. They make me feel invincible.
They also make me wanna step on everybody's toes but well, thats just me.

the "swishy maxi" day.

just before the CNY break hits.
You have no idea how happy I am.

and cos my eyeliner was surprisingly balanced that day,
here is a selca!

and then came the CNY outfits -

Day one - in MP's DARA printed shift dress.
If you missed it...why didnt you get it!! Haha.
Its all sold out now :(

Day two - h&m openback lace romper.
I was heading over to my parents' place and having steamboat
so damn scared of the heat plus need to run after nephews.
Only to have Nephew 1 tell me :
"Yiyi, why your clothes like that?!"
Fashion, Donovan. Its called FASHION.

Day three - MP's FLORENCE square neck floral frock.
I knew I wanted to get it the moment I tried the sample,
but couldn't decide between pink and purple.
And after trying it on, I am still a more pink kinda girl.
GAAAAH. So much for changing my style.

So right now, I am trying to milk the last few days of slacking at home,
with k-dramas and non-stop ready food
(I know, I know, 3 pineapple tarts = a bowl of rice.
Its okay, I probably had a BUCKET of rice)
and its back to work next week!
Here's to more nice launches to come!

much love,

Resolutions, 2013.

Finally gotten around to making resolutions for this new year.
I do this every year since I was 16 or so,
most of the time they don't work out,
but still, I refuse to break the tradition. Haha.

#1. Eat clean, live healthy.

Super inspired after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.
In short, its about how a man reboots his life and cures his 1001 illnesses
by going on a juice fast for 60 days and in doing so,
inspires the people and even random strangers around him to do the same.
Of course along the way he lost a lot of weight, got rid of his pills
and started living a really healthy lifestyle.
I wasn't so much attracted to the the weight loss part
(however tempting it might be)
but more so about the idea that given a little help,
your body can heal itself from within
and you can indeed improve your overall health.

So this year, I will try to

- eat less processed food
(this kills me cos I love my instant noodles :( )

- start juicing my greens, especially the ones I hate

this is what my juice is made up of.
By right, I should be aiming for a 70% veg, 30% fruits ratio
so I am still working on that :)
In fact, I went on a 3 days semi-juice fast and
I didn't die or end up chewing YC or my pillow at night.
Might do a longer one soon!

- bake more!

really cute baking gifts from sharms & bernice :)

- cook at home more often as well

love the cooking, hate the wash-up :(

#2. Work out.

Its really ironic that I didn't go to the gym as often before the wedding
as compared to AFTER the wedding.
I don't think I work out enough weekly to actually lose significant weight
but sometimes, its not just about the kgs.
I enjoy getting more toned, sweating it out
and feeling stronger everytime I leave the gym.
Discovered hot yoga last year and am thinking of seriously doing it this year,
perhaps branching out into other yoga classes as well.
Also want to complete a run or if not,
perhaps train for a new personal best?

#3. Dress up.

Every year as i get older (HORRORS)
I lament the fact that there are really some outfits I can't wear anymore.
Ripped shorts, chunky shoes and crop tops?
(not like I wear them in the first place but still...)
so every year I set the same resolution to dress up more.
Don't save the pretty dresses for a special day.
Don't be afraid to try a different style.
Don't get stuck in a style rut.
Don't be lazy.

this is our MODA dress coming up in this Sunday's launch
and i was telling sharms that its so pretty,
I don't know where to wear it too.
Then again, don't save the pretty dresses
so just wore it out anyway and felt pretty the entire day.

Speaking of style ruts,
I am really trying to not be so girly
and try more combinations.
But I still have a soft spot for well-made fit&flare dresses,
flouncy skirts, swishy maxis.
In fact, my CNY dresses this year are all from MP
and they might just all be in the same cutting, haha.

Which by the way, I highly recommend SABBIE
cos i think the cutting is ah-meh-zinggg,
so much so I kinda wanna get 2 colours
which is really rare for me if the item is not a plain basic top/shorts/skirt.

I am even planning my Vday outfit ahead of time, haha.

and this whole backlog of outfits I did the past 2 weeks
(@passionade on Instagram)

not really my usual style but it was nice being different :)
muscle tee (zara) // skinnies (topshop)

and on a super rainy weekend, i happily dressed in baby colours.
chunky knit sweater (missypixie) // floral bustier (berskha) // peach suede shorts (f21)

maxis are meant for lazy days.
duo-tone high neck maxi dress (missypixie)

inspired by the colour wheel.
high neck cobalt dress worn as top (h&m) // paperbag flare skirt (missypixie)

then came a rainy morning.
white knit pullover (topshop) // peach suede shorts (f21)

Mella said I wore too many shorts these days so I wore a dress for her. Haha.
navy chiffon cape dress (missypixie)

happy pops of colours and dots.
MIRA red racerfront top (missypixie) // polkadot shorts (Forever New)

and then my latest try at preppy chic
collared top worn inside (topshop) // grey pullover (MNG) // pink weaved skirt (topshop)

gotta love dressing up some days :)

much love,
